Summary
To promote regenerative medicine,we developed a less invasive method of repairing articular cartilage defect using autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) and a system that can allow cell culture to be performed under the care of another institute. We designed a protocol to create a microfracture under arthroscopy and then inject BMSC.In a hospital that does not have a human cell processing center for implantation (CPC),it is difficult to perform cell transplantation. If it would be possible to culture cells for human implantation at the CPC of another institute, cell transplantation could be performed more widely. At institutes that have CPCs but do not have enough seeds for clinical cell transplantation, this system would be helpful for such institutes to use their CPC more efficiently. We planned to culture cells from Hyogo Medical University and Osaka City University at the CPC of Medical Center for Translational Research, Osaka University Hospital.Such a system can promote the usage of CPC,and promote the development and practice of regenerative medicine in Japan.
